Chapter I: The Human Person and the Purposes of State
Art. 1. El Salvador recognizes the human person as the origin and purpose of the activity of the State, which is organized for the attainment of justice, legal certainty and the common good.
A human person is recognized in every human being from the moment of conception.

Art. 2. Everyone has the right to life, to physical and moral integrity, liberty, security, work, property, and possession, and to be protected in maintaining and defending them.
Prohibited practices
- There is a right to life extended to unborn persons in El Salvador, implicitly prohibiting research using embryos and cloning.
